Environmental Effects Statement

Huntly Common’s referral for an Environmental Effects Statement (EES) has been officially accepted by the Minister for Planning, with an EES helping to ensure the independent consideration of public and stakeholder interests, as well as environmental impact.

For more information about the EES process you can visit the Victorian Government’s website.

Huntly Common’s project activity is subject to mining regulations because gold will be recovered, for which a mining licence is necessary.

However, this project has a dual purpose, and is just as much about rehabilitation and restoration, with the team passionate about and committed to restoring country, rehabilitating land and delivering benefits to the community.

Interested parties are encouraged to keep an open mind as Huntly Common starts to build trust in plans to progressively remediate the area and bring the creek and its surrounds back to life.

There is comfort in knowing that creeks, streams, and rivers have been successfully rehabilitated all over the world – including further upstream of Huntly Streamside Reserve!

This project will see the safe removal of four million tonnes of mine tailings sludge, leading to the restoration of the watercourse and wetlands and, in turn, the return of more flora and fauna.

It will be a challenge, but you can rest assured that Huntly Common has engaged the right professional engineering and environmental expertise needed to deliver these optimal outcomes.

Huntly Common will also continue to engage with all regulators, environmental groups, the public, local landowners, and the business community through the entire process.

Community engagement is at the heart of everything Huntly Common seeks to achieve. Which is why a key goal of this project is the rehabilitation and restoration of Huntly Streamside Reserve, delivering shared benefits and looking after the environment, and the community, every step of the way
